Cozumel, Mexico

Are you planning your first cruise? Discover what to expect on a Carnival 4-day Western Caribbean cruise to Cozumel, including ship life, dining, excursions, and tips for first-time cruisers. It’s totally normal to feel nervous — we’ve got you. I remember feeling the exact same way before I boarded my first-ever Carnival Cruise. It was a 4-day Western Caribbean cruise from New Orleans to Cozumel, Mexico, and it turned out to be one of the best vacations I’ve ever had. To ease those first-time jitters, we recommend booking a shorter cruise—just a few days is the perfect way to test the waters.

This booking was for our class reunion, and since most of us had never cruised before, the excitement was off the charts. Here’s how our adventure began. We kicked things off in Memphis, where our group gathered to board the bus to New Orleans. The fun started before we even hit the highway—my friend’s dad, better known as Soul Bones, put on a lively puppet show complete with music and laughter. It set the perfect tone for the trip. After a hearty breakfast stop at Cracker Barrel, the rest of the ride seemed to fly by. Before we knew it, we were pulling into the Port of New Orleans, and that’s when the real excitement hit. Seeing the massive Carnival cruise ship up close for the first time was absolutely jaw-dropping—I could hardly believe how big it was. My roommate and I shared an inside cabin, which came with two twin beds, a private bathroom, and just enough storage for our clothes. It was cozy, simple, and perfect for two people who planned to spend most of their time exploring everything the ship had to offer.

Carnival really knows how to keep guests entertained. There was so much to do—comedy shows, karaoke, nightclubs, pools, waterslides, a gym, and even a walking track around the ship. I never once felt bored. The food deserves its own spotlight. From buffet breakfasts to multi-course dinners, there was something for everyone. One of my favorite moments was the final dinner, where the dining staff performed a fun show and took photos with us. It made the night feel extra special. The highlight of our trip was our shore excursion in Cozumel, Mexico. We booked the Electric Bike, Snorkeling & Island Beach Club excursion through Carnival. Riding along the coast and learning about Cozumel’s history and landmarks was such a unique experience. Although we skipped the snorkeling and ziplining, we made the most of the tequila tasting—it was definitely an unforgettable part of the trip!

My first Carnival Cruise to Cozumel was the perfect mix of fun, relaxation, and adventure. If you’re planning your first cruise, here are a few quick tips: Don’t stress about the cabin size—most of your time will be spent exploring the ship. Try different foods—you’ll be surprised at how much variety there is. Book at least one excursion—it’s worth it to experience the local culture. Bring a positive attitude—everything feels more fun when you’re open to new experiences!

I’m so glad I chose Carnival for my first cruise, and I’m already looking forward to my next one.
