When I first visited Hot Springs, Arkansas, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ll admit, I went into the trip a little skeptical. I had heard about the thermal waters and historic bathhouses, but I wasn’t convinced it would be a destination that really captured my attention for more than a day or two. I couldn’t have been more wrong. What I discovered was a city rich in history, full of natural beauty, and perfectly designed for slowing down and truly enjoying the moment. By the end of the trip, Hot Springs had completely won me over and quickly became one of my favorite places we’ve visited.
Hot Springs has a way of blending relaxation and learning without feeling forced. One moment you’re soaking in mineral-rich waters, and the next you’re walking through historic streets that tell stories dating back centuries. From the iconic bathhouses to scenic mountain views, the city feels both peaceful and alive at the same time. It’s a destination that invites you to unplug, explore, and appreciate the small details. Especially the food.
Our stay at the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa played a huge role in shaping our experience, and it truly exceeded expectations. First opened in 1875, the Arlington is not only the largest hotel in Hot Springs, but it’s also one of the most historically significant. Walking through the front doors felt like stepping into another era. The hotel’s grand architecture, elegant décor, and rich history immediately set the tone for our stay. I was especially taken by the hotel’s beautiful interior spaces. The Crystal Ballroom, with its chandeliers and timeless charm, made me imagine all the events and celebrations that had taken place there over the years. The Venetian Dining Room added another layer of elegance, reminding me that this hotel has hosted travelers, dignitaries, and visitors for generations. Staying at the Arlington Resort Hotel & Span wasn’t just about having a place to sleep—it was about being part of Hot Springs’ story.
Of course, no visit to the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa would be complete without experiencing its famous thermal bathhouse, and I made sure to take full advantage of it. This was, without question, one of the most relaxing experiences of the entire trip. I soaked in a mineral water tub, letting the warmth ease every bit of tension I didn’t even realize I was carrying. From there, I spent time in the hot sauna, followed by a refreshing shower. I also tried the hot towel wraps, which felt incredibly soothing, and finished everything off with a massage. By the time the experience was over, I felt completely relaxed—physically and mentally. All I wanted to do afterward was curl up in bed and drift into the deepest, most peaceful sleep imaginable. It was one of those moments where you think, This alone was worth the trip. Without hesitation, I would do that entire experience again.
One of the biggest advantages of staying at the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa is its unbeatable location. The hotel sits directly across from Bathhouse Row and Hot Springs National Park, making it easy to explore without needing a car. Stepping outside and walking through this area felt almost magical. The historic bathhouses line the street, each one with its own story, architecture, and character. Along the way, we found antique shops, local museums, souvenir stores, and a variety of restaurants that made the area feel lively and welcoming.
Exploring Hot Springs National Park was another highlight of the trip. The park offers a unique mix of history and nature that you don’t find in many places. You can see the natural thermal springs flowing just as they have for centuries, along with peaceful creeks, shaded walking paths, and scenic hiking trails. The mountain views throughout the park are stunning and provide the perfect backdrop for a slow, scenic stroll. Whether you’re deeply interested in history or simply enjoy being outdoors, this park truly has something for everyone.
For a fun and unexpected experience, we decided to take the famous Duck Tours, and I’m so glad we did. These amphibious vehicles take you on a guided tour through downtown Hot Springs before splashing right into Lake Hamilton. The transition from city streets to open water is both surprising and entertaining. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and offers a great mix of history, humor, and sightseeing. It’s a fantastic way to see the city from a completely different perspective and one of those experiences that stands out long after the trip ends.
Another must-see attraction is Hot Springs Mountain Tower. Rising 1,256 feet above sea level, the tower offers breathtaking panoramic views that stretch for miles. From the top, you can see Hot Springs National Park, the surrounding Ouachita Mountains, and vast stretches of Arkansas countryside. Standing up there, taking in the view, was one of those quiet moments that made me appreciate just how beautiful this area truly is. It’s a view you won’t forget anytime soon.
Hot Springs also surprised me with its diverse and satisfying food scene. No matter what type of cuisine you’re in the mood for, you’ll find something that hits the spot. One of our favorite dinner spots was The Back Porch Grill, known for its delicious steaks and seafood. The food was flavorful and comforting, perfect after a day of exploring. We also enjoyed Osaka Japanese Restaurant, which offered reliable hibachi and sushi options that didn’t disappoint. For breakfast, The Pancake Shop quickly became a must-visit. The friendly service and classic breakfast dishes made it the perfect way to start the day, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular with both locals and visitors. The dining experience at these spots was worth the time and money.
Beyond dining, Hot Springs offers plenty of shopping opportunities as well. Downtown is filled with boutiques, antique stores, gift shops, and local businesses that are fun to explore. Browsing these shops was a relaxing way to spend an afternoon and pick up unique souvenirs that felt more meaningful than typical tourist items. Just walking along the downtown area was worth it. I really enjoyed the shopping experience here and the friendly atmosphere as well.
Looking back on our trip, I’m incredibly glad we added Hot Springs, Arkansas to our travel list. This city offers the perfect balance of relaxation, history, and adventure. Between the elegance and comfort of the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa, the charm of Bathhouse Row, the natural beauty of Hot Springs National Park, and the variety of dining and activities, I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already thinking about when I could return. I really needed more time here to enjoy what Hot Springs has to offer. Hot Springs isn’t just a place you visit—it’s a place you experience, and one that stays with you long after you’ve gone.
